On the back of their latest album Blue Rev, GRAMMY nominees and Canadian darlings Alvvays delivered a sparkling set at Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas.

Starting off the evening is American songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist, Joanna Sternberg. Joanna is based in New York City. Some nervous energy can be sensed on stage from their set. Joanna stated that this was their first time in Vegas!

This nervousness adds a sweet and infectious cheeky vibe. This acoustic set was a very emotionally charged performance, but there was all sorts of positive crowd interaction. Joanna seems like a very sweet and humble person on stage. They acknowledge little mistakes and fumbles, but engaged the crowd and woos and claps can be heard all around.

Brooklyn Bowl was pretty full by the time Alvvays take the stage. The crowd provided a warm welcome to Canadian indie pop rockers as the lights dimmed and the band took their places. Almost immediately, dramatic artsy imagery and video is projected onto the curtain behind the band, and the venue stays very darkly lit to seemingly enhance the experience.

Alvvays has a pretty cool indie pop sound and vibe. A seemingly bit of a cult following, but fans were very excited to see this band! Overall, Alvvays provide a very interesting and intimate performance for their fans. The sound mix played very loud across all areas of the venue, both inside and out. And there even was a moment where vocalist Molly Rankin says she needs to find Shania Twain. "WHERE IS SHE!? I need to find her!" A smile casually came across my face. I may or may not be a little desensitized by Las Vegas residencies, but this little exclamation from Molly reminded me that this city is such a special place for showcasing that kind of talent.

Alvvays have been extensively touring their third record released in 2022, Blue Rev, which has a five year gap from their second release, Antisocialites. Their song "Belinda Says" was nominated for the Best Alternative Performance at the 66th Grammy awards, alongside Paramore, Arctic Monkeys, boygenius, and Lana Del Ray. This nomination was Alvvays' very first, and hopefully it won't be the last!
